Inktober day 1

Today is the first day of Inktober. I’ll be posting a drawing a day all month. Please feel free to post your comments and encouragements! (I’m shameless!)

This was inspired by a talk given this evening during the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints General Conference.

I drew this in a notebook my son, Jacob, gave me for my birthday. It’s leather-bound and filled with handmade paper. He bought it at a booth at King Richards Faire. Good times!!

I used a plain black ball-point pen. Matt Eng, a friend and professional artist, got me hooked on the way you can build up a drawing with a ballpoint pen. You can’t do it with fancy felt-tipped pens or fountain pens. This has a feel much like pencil where you can make light lines or heavier, darker lines with the same pen.

There’s a cool app from Adobe that allows me to take a drawing and turn it into an Illustrator-type line art. Here’s what it looks like after running it through the  Adobe Capture app:

Let me know what you think and which one you like more!
