Quick study of Maggie

Today was a busy day. I found myself nearing the end of the day without having drawn anything. Sitting in my office looking for inspiration, our dog, Maggie, sat at the top of our stairs with a very longing look.

When it looked like she might sit there for a moment or two, I took out my mechanical pencil and started to draw.

Almost immediately, she moved.

I worked quickly to try and capture her shape and to notice which body parts cut in front of the others. Her ear curled in fromt of her face. From this angle, her right shoulder appeared in front of her neck and face. Her right, rear leg was in front of her front, right paw.

I’m sure the proportions are a little off. I didn’t get a good look at her snout, but I was able to capture the gesture and then fill in the black and white fur pattern on her back.

I added a portion of the floor and the railing to give it a sense of place. Thankfully neither the floor nor the mat moved while I drew them!
