Wheeler Farm

We spent an hour or so at the Wheeler Farm in Murray, Utah where we are on vacation this week. While there, I tried my hand at drawing a few of the creatures we found on the farm.

I have been following some training provided by the Society of Visual Story-tellers in order to improve my drawing skills. I used this trip to the farm to put some of those lessons into practice.

It worked for me!

I followed the process of working from gesture sketch to structural lines to details. I also made a point of making my outline lines thicker than my internal detail lines. I found that the practice of drawing 3D shapes really helped me to see the shapes in the real world and gave me some added confidence in finding the lines for my subjects.

Here are the finished products of my drawing efforts today. (The duck was drawn at Murray Park earlier in the day. The rest were at Wheeler Farm.)
